Siddaganga Math

Sree Math was established by Sree Gosala Siddeshwara Swamigalu in the 15th Century. Since then many Shivayogis and Sharanas including Sree Sree Thontada Siddalingeshwara Swamiji came to the divine surroundings of Siddaganga Math seeking spiritual knowledge. One such Shivayogi was Sree Sree Atavi Mahaswamigalu. Sree Sree Atavi Mahaswamigalu came to Sree Math sometime in the middle of 19th Century and his focussed work lead to the beginning of “Dasoha” at Sree Math. It all began with ‘Anna Dasoha’ and then Sree Sree Atavi Mahaswamigalu started the ‘Vidya Dasoha’ in Sree Siddaganga Math – Samskritha Paatashala. The spark of ‘Dasoha’ lit by Sree Sree Atavi Mahaswamiji was tenderly looked after by the next pontiff Sree Sree Uddana Shivayogigalu. Under the tutelage of Sree Sree Uddana Shivayogigalu Sree Math opened the doors to people of all caste, creed and religion. He ensured the culture of Dasoha is enshrined in the functioning of Sree Math. However his greatest contribution was in recognising the potential and naming Dr Sree Sree Shivakumara Swamigalu as his follower and next pontiff.

Nadedaduva Devaru, Padmabhushana, Karnataka Rathna, Dr. Sree Sree Shivakumara Mahaswamigalu

Dr Sree Sree Shivakumara Swamigalu took over the running of Sree Math in 1941. When Swamiji started in 1941 Sree Math had 200 students pursuing Sanskrit education. The Dasoha involved ‘Anna’, ‘Vidya’ and ‘Ashraya’. Sree Sree Swamiji’s vision, hard labour, organising ability, moral strength lead the expansion to the extent that today nearly 9000 students are beneficent of the Great Dasoha. Swamiji could envision that the best way to destroy the inequalities in the society is through education. Though he went on to establish many colleges including professional education, his main focus was primary education. Even today there are many primary and secondary schools that are operating in nooks and corners of our state and most of them are in rural area. Thus he has been heralding the progress of Vidya Dosoha to Gnana Dasoha.

When His Excellency Dr APJ Kalam, President of India, visitied Sree Math during the centenary celebration of Sree Sree Swamiji, he said ‘His Holiness Sree Sree Shivakumara Swamiji is the example of spreading the Message of GIVING’.

All these years Sree Math has been the Centre of Dasoha – “Anna, Vidya, Gnana and Ashraya”. However, Sree Sree Swamiji, being a tireless seeker, always felt more needs to be done. As our country progressed Sree Sree Swamiji started thinking about other ways of upliftment of our Society. He started exploring how to improve the Health of our Society. His selfless, tireless life and teachings has been helping society to improve its moral and spiritual health. One of his ambition has always been establishing facility that can address any Health needs of the people – “Arogya Dasoha”.

Arogya Dasoha

Dreaming to Follow Dr Sree Sree Shivakumara Swamiji’s footsteps can sound hollow and impossible. However as his followers and good citizens if we do not try, we will not be doing justice to the teachings of Sree Sree Swamiji. Fortunately we have his protégé Sree Sree Siddalinga Swamigalu leading us in this endeavour.

Sree Sree Siddalinga Swamiji has been instrumental in bringing the modern, state of the art, tertiary health care facility to Tumakuru. He has been the guiding force for the group of Doctors, who are ardent devotees of Sree Math, to establish Siddaganga Hospital and Research Centre, in the heart of Tumakuru. Siddaganga Hospital has been established with the vision of “Right Care by the Right People at the Right time at the Right place at the Right Cost”. Achieving this vision is going to be a challenge needing the support from all corners. A modern hospital is just one part of the dream. Ensuring the affordability is the other part of the dream to make sure this kind of facility is used by all sections of society. To make this possible “Siddaganga Foundation” a charitable public trust has been established.
